Manners and Obedience Classes

Puppy Manners/ AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy
For puppies 8 weeks to 5 months of age

This class is part of the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program and is designed to help you and your puppy get off on the right paw!

In this class you will learn about proper socialization, exercise, nutrition and grooming, as well as the most common puppy issues: bite inhibition, potty and crate training, nipping/teething, destructive chewing, and jumping up.

We also cover basic obedience manners including: focus, sit, down, stay, leave it, drop it, come, and loose leash walking.

Basic Obedience
For dogs 6 months of age and older

This class is designed for dogs who have never taken an obedience course, or just need a refresher.

We cover basic obedience behaviors including: focus, sit, down, stay, leave it, drop it, come, loose leash walking, and door manners.

We also cover basic grooming and nutrition, and focus on continued socialization.

Advanced Obedience I
Prerequisite of Puppy Manners or Basic Obedience

Once your dog has learned the basics, it is time to begin to challenge them and prepare them to perform no matter where you are.

In this course, we work on adding distance, distractions, and duration to the basic behaviors learned in Puppy and Basic Obedience. We also introduce basic targeting, place and heel and begin to prepare them for their Canine Good Citizen Test.

Advanced Obedience II
Prerequisite of Advance Obedience I

Now that your dog knows what's expected of them, and has the ability to perform with various distractions, we continue to challenge them with new behaviors and even more advanced techniques.

We focus on group stays, rally behaviors, left and right finish,  and heel work.

Canine Good Citizen/Therapy Dog Preparation
Prerequisite of Advanced Obedience I or Instructor Approval
In this course, we work towards preparing your dog to pass their Canine Good Citizen and/or Therapy Dog tests with flying colors! We run mock tests in a variety of environments with various distractions and focus on problem solving any issues your dog may have with elements of either test.

The real Canine Good Citizen test is included on the last day of class, as well as information on the next Therapy Test for interested dogs.

Specialty Classes

Tricks for Clicks!
Prerequisite of Puppy Manners or Basic Obedience
Have more fun training! This class is all about teaching fun and challenging tricks. Everything from skateboarding and rolling over to playing dead and learning to army crawl, the tricks we teach change every time we teach this class because we teach what YOU want to learn!

Nosework Games
 No prerequisite!
Nosework is a relatively new sport that involves hunting and finding scents. This class is designed to help develop your dog's natural ability to find scents using their love for toys, food, and exercise, all combined with their natural desire to hunt! This class is a great way to build your dog's confidence, burn mental and physical energy, and have fun at the same time. Whether you plan on competing in the sport, or just want to do it for fun, this is a great outlet for any dog. Since dogs work individually, reactive dogs are welcome in this class. There is no prerequisite to start as this is a "no obedience necessary" sport, so any dog can join! This is an open enrollment class, meaning you can start at any time!

Barn Hunt

No prerequisite!
Barn Hunt is a new sport that is all about your dog's nose and instincts! In Barn Hunt, your dog searches for a rat, safely enclosed in an aerated PVC tube. In the class, we teach your dog to tap into their instincts, learn how to discern between empty tubes, tubes with used shavings, and the tube with the rat. Dogs of all sizes are welcome! There is no prerequisite to start and this class is also open enrollment, so you can start at any time! Learn more about Barn Hunt at:

Fun Walks! - meets weekly - Free
Prerequisite - must be a current or past student or receive instructor approval

This is a free and fun way to socialize and walk your dog each week with our trainer and her dog, Sophie! We will meet weekly at Kirby Park (weather permitting) and walk our dogs along the loop around the park. For young puppies and dogs that cannot walk much, we will do a short walk, then socialize on the grass. This is a great way to get your dog out and around various people and noises.
